The UAE's 5G-powered Internet of Things market is projected to surge from AED 1.24 billion in 2026 to AED 7.72 billion by 2033, driven by industrial demand, smart city initiatives and near-universal 5G coverage. Telecom operators are racing to deliver advanced IoT solutions.

UAE telecom operators are locked in a high-stakes race to dominate the next wave of digital infrastructure, as the country's 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) market is forecast to leap from AED 1.24 billion in 2026 to a staggering AED 7.72 billion by 2033. This explosive growth, projected at a compound annual rate of 29.8% according to Grand View Research, is not just a matter of numbers-it signals a fundamental shift in how businesses, cities and entire industries will operate in the coming decade.

What's driving this surge? The answer lies in the UAE's aggressive rollout of 5G networks, now covering more than 99.5% of populated areas with over 23,000 active sites and serving upwards of 10 million subscribers, as confirmed by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). This near-total coverage has created fertile ground for IoT adoption across manufacturing, logistics, energy, healthcare, and the government's smart city ambitions.

At the heart of the transformation are services that connect devices and equipment to the internet, enabling real-time data exchange and automated decision-making without human intervention. The fastest-growing segment is not hardware, but services-ranging from IoT solution integration and network connectivity to training, consultancy, and ongoing support. These services are rapidly becoming indispensable for sectors seeking to automate operations, monitor assets, and optimise efficiency at scale.

Industrial players, oil and gas operators, logistics firms and government-backed smart city programmes are fuelling demand for private 5G connectivity and advanced IoT solutions. The need for secure, dedicated networks and edge computing is pushing telecom providers to innovate beyond basic connectivity. Both e& UAE and du are rolling out new platforms and capabilities to capture this demand.

e& UAE has launched 5G network slicing for enterprises, offering tailored, reliable connections for diverse industry needs. The company recently completed a live commercial test of eRedCap technology, achieving data speeds up to 10 Mbps-an important milestone for expanding low-complexity IoT device ecosystems on 5G infrastructure. Meanwhile, du has introduced a remote IoT device and asset management platform, enabling real-time monitoring, cloud or on-premises integration, and AI-powered analytics for enterprise and industrial applications.

Market research from Mordor Intelligence estimates that IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) services within the UAE telecom sector will grow at 4.02% annually through 2031, reinforcing the sector's strategic importance. The breadth of applications is vast, spanning massive IoT deployments, broadband IoT, critical communications, and industrial automation-each with direct implications for how Dubai's businesses and public services operate.

With the infrastructure in place and operators investing heavily in next-generation services, the UAE is positioning itself as a regional leader in digital transformation. The real test will be whether businesses and government entities can translate this technological foundation into measurable productivity gains, smarter urban management, and new economic opportunities. For now, the evidence points to a market where competition is fierce, innovation is accelerating, and the winners will be those who move fastest to harness the full potential of 5G IoT.
