Dubai Maritime City has set a new record by docking the 145-metre MT Capri, now the largest vessel ever brought into its ship repair facility. The operation required careful planning and coordination, reflecting Dubai's expanding capacity for advanced ship maintenance and repair. This achievement supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the city's economy and strengthen its role as a global logistics and trade center, according to the Dubai Media Office.
A team of 38 staff members completed the docking process in three and a half hours. This surpassed the previous record from 2020, when a 135-metre vessel was docked. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) has previously reported on the UAE's efforts to upgrade maritime infrastructure as part of its Vision 2031 strategy.
Once docked, the MT Capri received several upgrades and repairs. Work included installing a ballast water treatment system to manage and purify onboard water, as well as hull maintenance and other essential tasks. These updates follow UAE regulations for environmental compliance, in line with directives from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and international maritime standards.
Securing the MT Capri onto the ship-lifting system required precise navigation and teamwork to ensure the vessel was safely positioned before moving it to the repair area. The process was completed without incident, reinforcing Dubai Maritime City's reputation for safety and efficiency. The operation met standards set by the Dubai Free Zones Council and the Dubai Maritime Authority, both of which help shape the emirate's regulatory framework.
